The Huntingdon Mustang baseball team after losing it first district game of the year to Waverly on April 15 on the road, have gone on a seven-game winning streak since that loss and will be the one seed in the District 12-AA tournament starting this Thursday at Mustang Field.
During the seven-game winning streak the Mustangs have scored 70 runs over that span and their pitching staff has posted five shutouts and only walked five hitters during the streak. Two of the wins have come in the district and the Mustangs finished their district schedule with a 5-1 record inside the district and 17-5 for the season.
The Mustangs last week defeated Camden 5-1, Bruceton 14-0, Union City 7-0, and USJ 13-3 in last week’s games.
Last week the Mustangs started the week on Monday with a makeup district game with Camden on the road. Caleb Ezell got the start for the Mustangs on the mound and went the distance and allowed six hits and struck out six batters in the 5-1 win. The Mustangs led 2-1 into the top of the seventh and Braylon Rich and Broox Bennett hit back-to-back home runs leading off the seventh to give the mustangs some insurance runs and secure the regular season district title. Bennett was 3-4 in the game and Rich went 2-3. Ashton Hutcherson also went 2-3 and drove in the first two Mustang runs.
The Mustangs then traveled to Bruceton on Tuesday and pounded out 14 hits in their 14-0 win. Easton Byars got the start and the win with five innings of work, allowing two hits and recording five strikeouts. Gray Eubanks was 2-3 at the plate and scored three runs, Rich was 2-3 and an RBI, Ashton Hutcherson 2-2 and scored three runs, Jax Bennett 22 and two runs scored, and Brady Warbritton 1-3 and two RBI.
The Mustangs hosted Union City on Thursday and Graham Bartholomew and Eubanks combined to hold the Tornadoes to zero runs. Bartholomew worked four innings and gave up two hits and Eubanks pitched three innings and struck out six. Warbritton was 2-4, scored twice and drove in a run, Byars 2-3, Eubanks 1-2 and a RBI, Rich 1-4 and two RBI, Broox and Jax Bennett recorded hits and Bartholomew was 1-3 with an RBI.
The Mustangs finished the week with a 13-3 win over USJ at home on Friday. Owen Kreuziger got the win with a complete game performance and scattered eight hits. Broox Bennett was 3-4 with a home run and three RBI, Eubanks 3-3, three runs scored and an RBI, Rich 3-4 and an RBI, Jax Bennett 2-2 and three RBI, Bartholomew and Ezell recorded hits.
