HHS celebrates basketball season at banquet
Huntingdon First Baptist Church was the site for the HHS basketball banquet as the high school honored their student athletes for the 2023-24 basketball season.
Vicki Crossno presented the cheer awards on behalf of cheer sponsor Ashten Pierce to start the banquet.
Head Fillies coach David Wilkins then presented the awards for the Fillies but first talked about what a great season they had. The Fillies were only the fourth team in school history to reach 28 wins as the Fillies finished 28-6 and earned a district title, region title, a sectional win and a berth at the state tournament. The Fillies also finished as the 7th highest scoring team in the state with 64 pts per game.
The Fillies also had all five starters earn all-district honors and Lilly Kee was named district MVP. Two players earned all-region honors and Kee was named the region MVP. All-district were, Kee, Annabelle Singleton, Quinn Kelley, Delaney Byars, and Josey Stokes. Singleton was district defensive MVP and was named all-region with Byars.
Individual awards: Delaney Byars Most Versatile, Josey Stokes Most Improved, Kelby Crossno Hustle and Heart Award, Quinn Kelley Most Three-pointers, Sara Beth Smith Impact Award, Lilly Kee Best Teammate, Annabelle Singleton Most Assists and Career Assists, Most Steals and Most Career Steals.
Lilly Kee was recognized for several accomplishements and was named as the team MVP. Wilkins also recognized Kee for most points, highest FG%, highest FT%, most rebounds, most blocks for the season. For her career she scored 1809 points which is second on the scoring list for the school, career rebounds, FG%, FT%.
The three seniors, Kee, Crossno and Singleton were presented Fillies for life plaques for their careers.
Head Mustang basketball coach Porsche McClerking the presented the Mustangs awards and named the five senior basketball players as the team MVP. The five seniors were, Tycen Willis, Rayshaun Bailey, Landon Bryant, Graham Bartholomew, and Kaleb Pearson. He stated that these five seniors played in three different districts and were 11 seconds away from making history as the team lost in the second round of the region and were those 11 seconds away from a sectional berth.
Others receiving awards, Rookie of the Year, Kenton Smith who also was all-district and all-region, 6th Man of the Year, Bryson Whiteside, Newcomer Award, Braylin Dearmon, Playmaker Award, Caleb Ezell who also was named all-district, Hustle Award, Landon Bryant, Coaches Award, Graham Bartholomew, Most Improved, Rayshaun Bailey, Captain’s Award, Defensive Player of the Year, Tycen Willis.
