Dorothy Louise Laws, 91, of Jackson, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 12. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2p.m, in the chapel of Chase Funeral Home of Huntingdon with Mark Simons, David Powell, and Josh Cook officiating. Burial followed at Sellers Hill Cemetery in Clarksburg.

 “Sissy”, as she was affectionately called by family or “Mama Dot” by grandkids and friends, was born on Oct. 5, 1928, in Carroll County, to the late John Alvin and Nannie Lou Ellen Hardy Pritchard. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Roan’s Creek Church of Christ until she moved to Jackson with her daughter, Sherry and granddaughter, Amber, at which time she placed membership at the North Jackson Church of Christ.  She obtained her GED in 2007 at the age of 78 and was the oldest person in Carroll County to achieve that honor.  She also wrote for the Carroll County News Leader for forty plus years and was an usher at The Dixie Performing Arts in Huntingdon.  She loved to read her Bible, work puzzles, and listen to music.  She loved deeply and was loved deeply.  She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Waldon H. “Preacher” Laws and four brothers, Thomas, Lyndell, Lois Ray, and Freddie Pritchard.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Carwile, of Jackson, and Kimberly Laws, of McKenzie; sons, Kerry (Karen) Laws, of McKenzie, and Timothy Laws, of Pueblo, Colo.; six grandchildren, Chris (Erin) Laws, Brian (Michelle) Black, Josh Black, Amber Carwile, Nick Laws and Lindsey (Charlotte) Arnold,12 great-grandchildren, Sadie, Madi, Aayden, Addyson, Avery, Aybel, Braylee, Carlie, Tucker, Analeigh, Matilda and Ava; two step-grandchildren, Angie (Rusty) Wainscott and Caleb(Ashley) Wilson, six step-great-grandchildren, Mason, Lucas, Skylar, Jayden, Hailey, and Gunner, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers who served were Chris and Nick Laws, Brian and Josh Black, Lindsey Arnold, and Caleb Wilson. Memorials can be given to the North Jackson Church of Christ, 2780 Hwy 45 Bypass North, Jackson, TN 38305 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN  38105.
