Huntingdon Public Safety Director Walter Smothers has been selected to serve on the Tennessee Association of
Chiefs of Police (TACP) Board of Directors for the year 2020-2021.
“I am honored to announce that I have been selected to serve on the TCAP board beginning in August,” said
Smothers. “It is an honor.”
The Association has 12 districts across the state.
Smothers will be representing District 11 which is comprised of the counties of Carroll, Weakley, Gibson, Obion,
Lake, Dyer and Crockett.
“I plan to contribute in every possible way to help this great organization move a head as the country navigates
into, what is now an uncertain future,” said Smothers.
In this difficult time for the nation and for law enforcement the TACP is taking the lead to develop a model for
law enforcement within the state that will accommodate change while meeting the needs of officer protection and
the protection of the citizens.
Smothers was selected by a nominating committee composed of a group of board members with the selection
based on the length of membership, participation in committees and attendance at bimonthly meetings.
He is currently on two TACP Committees that include the Rural and Small Departments and the 911 Advisory.
The Director of Public Safety also serves as a member of several organizations. They include the Carl Perkins
Advisory Board, West Tennessee Safe Kids Coalition, West Tennessee Council on Children and Youth, Carroll
County Health Council and the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network.
