‘One Tree Hill’ fans better get ready. Tyler Hilton is taking the stage at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center, October 19, with his unique brand of bluesy, folk rock ballads and a premier VIP meet & greet!
Millions know Tyler Hilton as Chris Keller from the CW series ‘One Tree Hill.’ But true fans know that Hilton is also an accomplished songwriter and singer. One might even say that music is the very fabric of who he is. Hilton spent much of his childhood performing and playing with his family of musicians and songwriters. His first songs picked up by a major record label, he wrote while doing homework. Music has been in Tyler from the beginning.
Hilton began his music career in earnest in 2000 and released 2 Top 40 singles while he was still a teenager. But it wasn’t always easy getting producers to understand just who Tyler Hilton really was. “I’d play them my favorite records; Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Townes Van Zandt, Weezer’s ‘Pinkerton,’” Tyler remembers. “I’d just get blank stares like, ‘So…are you rock, pop, blues, country…?’ And the answer was always, ‘Yes, all that.’”
It may not have been the easy answer they were looking for, but it made perfect sense to Hilton. “There’s a common denominator in all of that music to me. Maybe it’s a feeling of adventure or rebellion, or just hearing real people. Whatever it is, that’s what my feelings sound like, and that’s what the music that comes out of me sounds like.”
Fans get it too. His music seems to strike a resonant chord.. The title single from his latest album City on Fire, a gritty, Johnny Cash style murder ballad, gives voice to the powerful undercurrent of futility and frustration many find immediately relevant. And while all his music is ‘real,’ it’s not all dark. The album as a whole captures his loose, organic musical style and is as multifaceted as his fan base.
In addition to his music career and role on ‘One Tree Hill,’ Tyler Hilton is also known for his role as Elvis Presley, in the Oscar-winning Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, co-starring with Robert Downey Jr. in the acclaimed indie film Charlie Bartlett and with Taylor Swift in her music video, “Teardrops On My Guitar.”
